CORPORATE

This Needs Assessment is based on a fictitious client (Bank XYZ). One main purposes of the needs assessment is to verify that the performance problem is caused by a lack of training and not by other reasons.

Here are the learning objectives and test items associated with the Bank XYZ needs assessment.

Note:
These test items were done before developing the content using the learning objectives as the guide. This methodology championed by Robert Mager and Peter Piper, may seem odd for conventionalist, but certainly works and make sense because allow us (as instructional designers) to plot what to teach, and to be sure that the student will be evaluated on that knowledge acquisition.

The objective of this solo activity was to develop a ~5-minute lesson on a topic of our choice using Power Point as the presentation medium.

This Instructional plan and Job aid is based in the previous analysis of the Bank XYZ case.

This communication plan was developed for a project involving new software implementation.

I also created a logo for a relocation company in Bogota, Colombia.

Some of the coursework for the Technical Writing class involved not only rewrite some text, but also redesign fictitious clients communication pieces, to better convey the message according to the audience.

Power solutions
: In this case the text and the information in the original was selected and reorganized to be printed in the product packaging directly according to our proposal. The graphic design and layout also was part of the newly developed alternative.

Hitch instructions
: Other exercise was redesign an actual instructions to assemble a hitch. This is the original instructions flyer and this was our proposal for redesign.

This designed form evaluates (Kirkpatrick's level 1) the satisfaction level and reactions of students about the course they took.

HIGHER EDUCATION / K-12

This web-based training was programmed using Macromedia Flash and its goal is to teach second graders about the California standard contents about money.

I also developed another web site within a US Department Of Labor (DOL) grant to increase awareness of Logistics and Supply Chain as a career field. This is the site that has more css (Cascade Style Sheets) from all that I have programmed so far. Click here to see my design and programming (stand alone version). A later modified version - done by another programmer - is live at www.logisticsqc.org

This board game was developed to reinforce 4th graders knowledge about the historical era of Westward Expansion in compliance with the California content standards.

Use of Maps and Geotools - This activity was designed to incorporate map and GPS in an educational activity for Japanese students learning English a second language.

This project evaluated the implementation of the software Lexia at the Ocean Knoll Elementary School. The Lexia software develops reading and cognitive skills. This project involved literature review included in the report.

These are examples of instructor slides developed for the module of work ethic used in the non-credit logistics program at Eastern Iowa Community College District (most of them were reused for the credit program.)

For one of the introductory credit courses of Logistics & Supply Chain Management at Eastern Iowa Community College District, we decided to play a board game (designed by the MIT) known as the "beer game".
The instructions for the facilitator of the game that came with the game were not very clear, so I rewrote them. Here is my version for the facilitator of the game.

This enhaced podcast (sound and images) was developed for a top executive meeting to communicate the initiative of blogging during the SDSUMonth. The experiences of students, alumni and faculty working and study abroad were recorded in the blog. For the presentation itself a podcast (sound only) was syncronized with a powerpoint presentation.

Note: You can see the enhanced podcast in the iTunes software or using Quicktime Player (download it for free, here).

This video was designed to promote career awareness of the Logistics & Supply Chain Management field, and was intended for younger audiences (high school students), however is informative enough that adults can find it interesting.
I filmed most of the people, edited and digitalized the video.

This is an "awareness plan" designed to promote careers within Logistics & Supply Chain Management field, to different audiences. This product was one of the deliverables during my participation in a US Department of Labor Grant.

In our presentations to explain the Logistics & Supply Chain Management career field to Community College advisors we tried a new approach to deliver our message.

We used a technique created by some architects in Japan called Pecha Kucha. In this technique the slides are only images (in our presentation we included just one line of text), and you need to tell your story/deliver your message in 20 slides, and each slide should take no more than 20 seconds (you have to automate them), so you should be able to deliver the message in 6 minutes 40 seconds!
Note: If you are intrigued about Pecha Kucha I have a posting in my blog about that.

Here
is a presentation that I created using this format.
(Because is a .pdf it doesn't have animation that time each slide in 20 seconds but you can see the speaker notes to have an idea what the speaker was supposed to convey in each slide).

Working in the Department of Labor (DOL) grant, I designed several marketing pieces to promote Logistics & Supply Chain management as a career field. here are examples of some of them: brochure for high school students and display.

In order to validate our initial design of the logistics website geared to high school students, I designed, and conducted focus groups in several high schools of the quad cities area. Here is the final report of those focus groups results including the designed questionnaires and questions.

I also designed these options for a raffle form to be used during the 2006 SDSU Month.
NON-PROFIT

This was my first attempt to develop a Podcast. This podcast is based on a printed ad of 'The Partnership for a Drug-Free America' organization (http://www.drugfree.org/). The ad title is "4 really bad reasons why parents don't talk to their kids about drugs".
The objective was to reinforce the same powerful message stated in the ad, using other media to increase its diffusion and portability between parents to increase awareness of the importance to talk the kids about drug abuse prevention.

The purpose of the coursework is to develop a paper based solution for the instructional materials of a topic of our choice. My team chose Reiki - Level 1 as the topic. Here is an overview of our solution and lessons learned, and some samples of the Power Point presentation to use in class, and the Instructor Manual.

Informal Learning - This coursework activity was designed to complement the formal learning of Black & White Photography students with a visit to the Museum of Photographic Art (MoPA) in Balboa Park (San Diego, CA).
Here are the design specifications, an example of one of the learning objects developed and the final PowerPoint presentation created by my team.

This Educational / Informational Video was coursework intended to promote SeaPort Village as one of the tourist attractions of San Diego. Our team selected the idea, developed the script and the storyboard, filmed and edited.

Note: You will need Quicktime Player. If you do not have it you can download it here.

This step-by-step guide was developed to help MVCASTD Board members to upload documents in our MS Sharepoint working space.

I designed this flyer for the Spring 2008 ASTD event for our chapter.

While working with ATEEC (Advanced Technology Environmental & Energy Center), I designed new posters to display in our booth when we attended venues open to general public. Using some existing content, I rewrote some and designed the posters to display.

As an IT Vice President and webmaster of the Mississippi Valley Chapter of the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD), during 2009 I had the task to migrate our previous web site to a new format provided by ASTD National.
The skeleton of the web site was build using MS Share Point, but to get the look and feel of the pages I had to hard code HTML. I did most of the graphics and take most of the pictures. This site has a public area an a password protected members-only section. Here is the public area (http://mvc.astd.org).

INDIVIDUALS

This web site development was part of my master's coursework. As my family and many of friends live in different countries, this site was a virtual tour of (at that time) my newly acquired apartment.

This web site was developed to inform out of town guests details about my wedding.

This other project created with Captivate 2 is a short lesson (49 screens) about blogging. It includes: definition of blogging, advantages of blogging, examples of blogs, and a short step-by-step lesson of how to create a blog using 'www.blogger.com'.

Based on an existing graphic, I designed the logo, invitation and poster of an outdoor art exhibition by an argentinean artist presented in Amsterman (Holland).
For more information about the exhibit you can visit the artist website - not created by me - (http://www.otonioinverso.com.ar/) and click on Nederland on the far right side of the screen.
